BMW owners have reported problems with the CanBus electronic management system with which newer bike are being equipped. The CanBus breaks the contact between the battery and the DC socket when the maintenance input current via the socket falls below roughly 200mA. It fails to re-establish this contact so of course the battery goes flat as no current gets through to keep the battery charged.
The Optimate 4 BMW CanBus charger gets over this problem by keeping the connection open when other chargers would fail to do this.
