Reviews of Wunderlich map pocket for Sports Tank Bags

Adequate map pocket.. Alison Peberdy on Jun 27, 2022

Rating: 3

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this map pocket but for the life of me, I cannot see how it is worth the price tag of £40. It is smaller than I expected (10.5" x 8.5") and constructed of two pieces of hardy clear plastic with what appears to be a waterproof zip around two and a half of the 4 sides. A strip of velcros is stitched at the top on one side (to keep it in place on the tank bag), the other end has a small strap with a clip on it which fits into the corresponding clip on the bag. I suspect that because of the stitching around the other sides of the pocket that this will mean, irrespective of the zips, this will not be waterproof (but neither is the tank bag). The pocket is adequate and will likely do the job, but personally think it should be at least 1" wider around all 4 sides which would mean a slight overlap on top of the tank bag, which wouldn't be a problem. As it is, the area to view and hold a map is small. Hopefully I won't actually need to use it for navigation purposes but if the GPS fails (as has already happened to me) whilst on my forthcoming 8 week European tour of 10 different countries, a decent map backup option is pretty desirable.
