Reviews of Wunderlich Xtreme engine cover most R1200 and R1250 models (see exceptions below)

This is the best engine cover solution I have come across. I particularly like that there is a short extension of the cover that goes under the bike so that the vulnerable bottom corner is well-protected. It was easy to fit. Like others I applied the sticky foam padding strips to the cover rather than the engine as described in the instructions. Most people don't even notice it unless I point it out to them, then they want one!

Product fitted well on my 2023 R1250R and does a good job of protecting the engine front from muck and stones sent up by the front wheel. Price is high for what it is but its a good solution.

Saving Paint Peeling Hopefully Trevor Nuttall on Apr 11, 2023

Having had a GSA 1200 previously and the paint peeling off from the front of the engine I opted to fit this cover. It was really easy to fit although I did remove the skid pan first. I do also have the front mudguard extender fitted which did not interfere with the engine cover. Just hope it helps to save the paintwork.

Good Fender-Extender Alternative! Pete Watson on Mar 08, 2023

Originally wanted to fit a fender extender but given potential front guard rigidity concerns and not being taken by the visual appearance of the Wunderlich solution with bracing straps elected to install this front shield. Part well made, instructions clear and item easy to fit. Took precaution of adding Loctite to fixing screws as an extra step. Good delivery turn around from NN's as usual! (ordered with a rear mudslinger)

Excellent quality item that was an absolute doddle to fit and now stops those pesky stone chips that plague the front engine cover on Boxer twins, would very much recommend.

Easy to fit. Well made and should protect front of the engine.

It's only a plastic moulding, but what quality! Perfect, easy fit in minutes (I too fitted the foam tape to the cover not the engine Andrew, good tip) and does the job. I've seen comments about "expensive for a of a bit of plastic" but would say that in comparison with the price of replacing a damaged engine front plate or of having it painted this product is actually good value. Usual faultless service, packing and delivery by Nippy Normans. Happy customer, thank you.

Quality as You'd Expect from Wunderlich Rick H on Dec 19, 2020

It may be just a plastic shield but it is fabulously constructed and fits like a glove. You need to look very closely to see that it's there. Even with a fender extender the exposed front of the motor still gets peppered with road debris, so if you want the best protection fit one of these. If I was designing it myself I would have extended the lower part to cover the exhaust balancer pipe as well.

Superb and essential. Paul DOCHERTY on Nov 07, 2020

Great engine guard. Works perfectly with the wunderlich mudguard extension to really protect the front of the bike. For the R1250RS you don’t need to remove any body parts, it fits directly on. I also chose to fit the sticky pads to the cover itself rather than the bike and it seems to have worked fine. Essential upgrade for wet/muddy riding in the UK (or the rest of Northern Europe) outside the summer, to protect from stone chip damage.

This item provides much better protection than the "Crud Catchers" I have used on previous bikes. But being made of plastic rather than stainless steel only time will tell how robust it is. Fitting was easy and it looks like OEM only real downside is the cost which did seem excessive.

Good fit and matches the shape of the front of the engine. Used off road several times and it certainly looks after the complete front area. Can be fitted with Alt rider crash and sump protection with slight modification.

I wanted to protect the engine front from stone and debris damage especially as mine is the silver finish and this fits the bill perfectly. It spans the entire width and from the very bottom of the engine casing to two thirds the way up, (much more generous than any of the alternatives on the market), and is secured using the bottom four engine bolt locations. As I already had the Avant Fender extender fitted I was worried there might not be enough clearance but there is plenty. The finish is as good as OEM.

Easy to fit, although I preferred stick the separating foam tape onto the cover, rather than the engine to avoid possibility of damaging paint (the whole point about the cover). Cover fits perfectly and blends in well

Just 10 minutes to install and a perfect fit. Should save the front of the engine from being grit blasted.
