Fitted well without problem. However 18 month later both split without any contact damage. Have sent photos to NN and Wunderlich. Long term poor quality. NN SAYS NEW SET OFFERED TO THE CUSTOMER

Well made and easy to fit, increases the size of the engine protector bars preventing the cylinder cover from touching the ground, so worth it.

After reading a number of reviews, with varying success, I went with the following. Firstly, I positioned the pad on the lower crash bar in the correct position. I then removed the crach bar, only four bolts. I then heated the pad with an hairdryer ( there are quite a few stories of pads splitting on tightening) and fitted the backplate. I then refilled the crash bar , and repeated the process for the other side. Made the job very easy , with no restricted access. Great product!

Nice looking product fits bike well. Piece of mind in case of dropping bike. Very quick delivery and packaged very well.

As noted under my Wunderlich crash bars review I dropped my last bike shortly before I changed it. The crash bars and panniers saved any damage to the bike but one crash bar was marked. I bought some cheap Chinese copies of the Wunderlich items to cover the marks but they were not very good. When I bought new Wunderlich bars these were a no brainer. I am not sure that they would protect the bars in a high speed fall (I am not sure that the bars would protect the bike) but they would be ok for a low speed tumble. There are two methods of attachment and some debate on the subject! A simple, double-sided tape and clamp method and the above method but reinforced by drilling a hole into the bar to prevent the slider rotating around the bar in a fall. Along with many other people I used the simple tape and clamp method. It should suffice in a low speed fall. The advantages of these items are obvious. On the flip side the instructions are not brilliant and the sliders are easier to fit if they are warmed slightly before fitting.

These pads are not as described,"an Easy Fit" there are two methods of attaching the pads, Tape and clamp or Drill the bars and fit a bung then attache the pad to the bung and proceed as per the first method. this method involves removing the bars, i opted for the tape and Clamp method. First when the Pads are cold they will not give and many complaints on youtube regarding splitting the pad when fitting. In order to fit hem attach the clear tape to the frame, then ensure you have warmed up the bungs, i did mine on a radiator, this softens the pad slightly and allows it to fit in place , turn the pad 90 degrees, and attach the back plate loosely, tighten the top two bolts using the thread lock then turn back into position turn the pad back to where it sits, this can then be tightened. from the underside. Hopefully I wont have to see how they work!

Yep, great looking product, and they will protect the crash bars at slow speed. But the product description is miss leading. On the website it clearly says, "Easy assembly". It is anything but. If you want the full installation, then you have to remove both crash-bars and then drill two holes through them, thus weakening them. I took the easy option and just used the the plate to secure against scratching should the bike fall over or slow speed offs. At high speed there are going to bigger issues than protecting the crash bars!

Doubted they would be used? ...2 Weeks later however Graeme on Nov 08, 2020

Bought X-Heads after a friend dropped his bike at standstill several times and damaged cylinder head. I then added these crash bar protectors after hearing him moan about scratched crash bars after his drops. I got caught out doing a slow/wrong camber u-turn on my loaded GSA on 6th Nov 2020 (why oh why did I think that was the right manoeuvre? lol) .....and hey presto bike started to keel over and I held it up until I was forced to lay it down as my pal couldn’t get off his bike to help. No matter, bike rested on the crash bar protector and my Beemer Pannier which had plastic corner protectors. Zero Damage, lifted bike up quickly, amazing the power of embarrassment .....and the right technique, then had to hold bike up and lean over to lower sidestand by hand, all on awkward road camber .....phew! So, worth every penny, half wondered if I was overdoing it buying these Wunderlich Protectors as I already fitted the X-heads? Worth every pound. I’m a strong fella, however sometimes everything conspires (including my own stupidity! lol) .....and your bike gets away from you. At standstill drop, these worked an absolute treat and my 3 day Highland jaunt was unspoiled. Cheers NN .....one of these “is there really any point in buying these” purchases..... that proved to be a very grateful purchase!

Not so easy to fit with crash bars fitted to the bike because of limited access to screws , if the screws had been Hex Head a spanner could have been used instead of a right angle screwdriver otherwise great.

Brilliant. They may seem expensive but are very high quality. Buy these as they are way cheaper than repairing bars/bike. Great service from NN as usual. Note you have to release the crash bars to install these protectors. Peace of mind at last!
