Reviews of Cymarc R NINE T side covers black (pair)

Nice looking plates. Not easy to fit. Paul on May 03, 2024

These plates look nice and fill a gap that should really have been filled by BMW designers in the first place. These are study looking metallic plates. Okay, they're expensive for two small metal plates and a few clamps but that's just how it is with motorbike stuff. I bought the gloss black plates. It's a shame that these don't come with black screws instead of silver. This would have improved the look against the black plates in my view. Fitting these plates was, however, a bit of a nightmare. The three clamps that hold each plate on are unbelievably hard to fit without cross-threading the screw. Getting enough access to the back of the plate to hold/adjust the clamp as you're tightening is very difficult. The problem is that there's no nut on the back, just a "rivBush" - a threaded rivet in the clamp that the screw goes in. Any cross-threading at all seems to detach the "rivBush" from the clamp. Once it has detached it's a nightmare to get the screw out as the rivBush is round (a hexagonal riv-bush would have been a lot better idea - for loosening the bush if it becomes detached). After cross-threading one of the clamps I had to cut the whole clamp off (which resulted in scratching of my bike frame and scratching of the plate - even with the recommended cautionary electrical tape applied). Perhaps if the holes in the plates were slightly slotted instead of circular, a sideways adjustment of the plate during fitting would prevent cross-threading and make fitting a lot easier. Luckily, Cymarc do sell the clamps on their own as a pack of 3 or 6 (which probably indicates how many have to be replaced during fitting).

These covers do an excellent job of hiding the plastic airbox and add to the character and style of the bike. Had lots of compliments since fitting them
