Optimate has been excellent, it has never let me down and have never had a problem with it.

I already have an Optimate 4 for use on the Can Bus BMW where it maintains the battery very easily and effectively through the accessory socket.
This new one is used on the standard program ,which is very easy to revert to, and maintains the other two non Can Bus bikes without problems.

I bought this as we approach the winter and I didn't want to remove the battery over the winter just in case there is the odd day with no salt on the roads when I fancy a run out.
Fortunately the Canbus version defaults to the correct settings out of the box so that saved a bit of time and reading of the instructions. I'm impressed so far with the quality of the device having tested it out on my return from a 2 week holiday. It charged the battery for an hour or so and then went into maintenance mode as expected.

I bought this to replace my optimate 3 as it has the canbus function. Great service great price and delivery within a couple of days. The charger does exactly what it says on the tin. Just plug it into the canbus socket and off it goes. So much easier then the faff of connecting to the battery. Recommend.

Did not know anything about the Can Bus system but upon checking this out on Google after a friend recommended I do I say this on NN sales. After receiving the kit in a few days packed very securely I plugged it in & off it went checking the system out for a few minutes then in standby mode. Would recommend this Opti charger for your BMW

I try to keep things simple so went for the old school approach of wiring a NOCO 5 direct to the battery (avoiding the canbus). This was a new bike with a new battery, but I got very intermittent and strange results and eventually a flat battery! It looked like the Noco was faulty or perhaps confused by the demands of the electronics. I decided to try the more sophisticated but convenient approach of plugging the new Optimate into the accessory socket. This works so well! Utterly convenient and no issues whatsoever. I considered getting the more expensive BMW unit, but so glad I saved the money and got this. In the meantime, the NOCO seems to be working fine on my other vehicles....

I bought this new ultimate to replace an old Oxford fairings charger that I have had for many years. I have wall mounted it with a couple of screws on the left side of the garage where I park my bike. This gave easy access to the din socket on the 1250 in the left hand side panel. And that was it, plug and play. Coming already set up for can bus charging, it couldn't be easier. There is some drain on the battery from the bikes tracker so this is piece of mind when the bike is parked for any length of time. Being an intelligent battery maintenance system means it should never damage the battery and it is reassuring to see it working through its charge and maintain sequences. Can also be used as a direct charger. Although it seems to go against all common sense to connect the crocodile clips together to change from can bus to direct charge, it works fine and proves the level of protection built into the unit. The quality of this optimate is a step up from the older ones and it shows.

I have been using an optimate 3 for a number of years on another bike. The beauty of these chargers can be summed up in the few words needed to describe them. Apart from the intuitive lighting system, which needs a little reading, the only thing to say is plug it in and leave it until you wish to ride again. My bikes have been left unattended for several month with no issues at all. I have only used them on healthy batteries, so I am unable to comment on their ability to recover severely damaged battery’s.

The charger was set up ready for Canbus out of the box but it is easily switched between modes. Plugs straight in to the aux power socket and works as it should - charges, tests and maintains your battery. Excellent service from NN as usual!

Thought the instructions could have been clearer, especially what the LEDs are actually telling you. I found some of the detail confusing, so I did what most people probably do - I just plugger it into the Canbus auxiliary socket - there was a note stating the charger had been shipped in the mode that is BMW friendly via aux socket on bike.
Saves having to take any panels off, especially on my F800GSA, so a bonus.

In the past I have always connected an Optimate direct to the battery, but thought this time I would try using the din plug into the din socket on the bike. My reasoning being that the BMW is loaded with all the electronic systems I would use a recommended battery charger.

Does exactly what is should. Have read some reports of Can-Bus issues and having to switch on ignition etc. Nothing of the kind with this. Plugged it in on a bike that had been standing for a month and away it went. Completes diagnostic checks then straight into charge maintain routine.

First delivery did not work as advertised out of the box. NN replaced promptly and the charger has impressed me to-date. It sensed my battery was 80% reliable and has fixed it to 100% over the last 2 days.

Does what it says on the box, is a bit difficult to follow what all the lights are doing, very fiddly to change from Canbus charging to simply attaching direct to battery. However, it is a good bit of kit. I use two of them.

This charger works straight out of the box. You just plug it into the can bus socket and let it analysis and charge the battery. It comes with crocodile clips for charging the battery off the bike, but if you do this there is a simple produce which is explained within the instructions to change it over to this type of charging. I would definitely recommend it for BMW's as its so simple to use.

I had an optimate charger for donkeys years. But it had to be connected to the battery via the special lead on the last few bikes.
This new version apparently conditions the battery better - and works through the canbus of modern beemers.

I have used Optimate chargers for many years and apart from changing the connectors on the early model (Optimate have upgraded these parts on subsequent releases) have never had any problems. I bought this new model as it is compatible with the canbus charging socket fitted to my bike. Also the higher voltage desulfating program is disabled by default, as BMW do not recommend it for charging with the battery connected to the bike. This version comes with the BMW DIN connector included, so you can plug straight into your bike and leave it to do its thing.

Quality charger as ever from Optimate with the new 2017 4.3.
As others have said for CAN BUS the set up of shorting out the charger leads seems a bit strange to get the unit to go from program1 (standard) to program 2 for BMW CAN BUS, but once its done that's it, no need to touch it again unless you want to charge another non CAN BUS system in the future.
I have the unit plugged in 24/7 and just connect up to the bike via the accessory socket.
