Complex solution to a simple problem, perhaps? Tom Phillips on May 12, 2021

Given that BMW packs our bikes with a mass of technology, often into a small space, it’s a credit to companies like Wunderlich that they manage to find space to fit (often) very elegant solutions to the need to supplement what BMW provided. Something that locks your helmet(s) safely and securely doesn’t need to be elegant, just strong and unobtrusive. Once installed, this cable device fits the bill - providing you have a full-face helmet, of course. However, fitting it without damaging various parts of the bike’s electrics is, as others have commented in their reviews, a fiddle and a faff. The accompanying instructions are, by Wunderlich standards, very good, or, as you and I might say, just about adequate. I didn’t get the bit about stowing the cables “in the suspension compartment”, though. You just have to do what you can with them under the seat. My K1200LT achieves the same ends as this device via a piece of bent metal and a short length of wire. The Wunderlich device works, but I can’t help feeling it’s a slightly over-engineered solution to a simple problem, perhaps?

Beautifully made Wunderlich product. Fits like a OM part with the exception that the cut out is so snug over the plug end that the small wires chafe on the S/S bracket. For the time it takes, I’d suggest rounding off the sharp edge where the wires are closest before fitting. It’ll save lots of tears later.

I found it a little fiddly to fit (very tight on space under my 1200GSA seat) but it went in eventually. I'd suggest be very wary of it rubbing on the wiring in that area. In use the lock is simple enough to use although has a habit of the locking catch sticking and not actually locking the cable without wiggling it (lubrication will solve this) but overall a useful device I'd not be without now I have used it.

Reset the seat height when you leave the bike, or add a small padlock to the loops. It is not secured properly otherwise. Nice piece of equipment though.

Well built, looks and feels sturdy. The loops are well protected. The bracket itself was a fairly tight fit and I had to snip a cable tie away to shift some of the wiring loom out of the way so it wasn't putting so much pressure on it. Even so, it was still quite tight. I wrapped the pressure point with plenty of tape to try avoid it piercing through the loom as things are bound to move around with riding. Otherwise a good fit and helmets are sturdy.

Great product, very easy to fit and works perfectly, I have the seat on the higher setting so I also use a small padlock across the two loops for added security.

Excellent product, very handy, Only gripe is sharp edges on metal plate, soon sorted with files and sandpaper.

Very easy to fit and very easy to use. It's so much nicer not having to carry your helmet everywhere.

Be aware that if you have the standard seat on the 'upper' height setting (as I do), it is quite possible to access and release the retaining catch through the gap between seat and frame, so in these circumstances the system is NOT fully secure. In fairness, it would take a bit of fiddling to unhook the cable, probably more time than a casual thief would want to spend. However, for more peace of mind, either reset the seat height when you leave the bike, or add a small padlock to the loops.

As always this latest purchase arrived quick, safe and well packed. I have had a few Wunderlich products in the past and all have been excellent quality. That's why I am disappointed that this simple helmet lock needed some modification before it would work. The problem is that the pressed steel cable locater needed filling/widening before the cable loop would fit. An easy 15 minute job but one that I hadn't expected to do. If the the product was tested at the factory the problem would have been seen and fixed. Apart from that a easy fit great useful product.

Will they stay or will they go? Bob on Mar 11, 2018

I once had a helmet stolen off a bike, they cut the chin strap with the 2 d rings. Since then I have never left my helmet on the bike. But as I'm a lot older and carrying helmets around has become a pain I was looking for a way to keep them on the bike other than in a top box or pannier. This system fitted the bill. No cables and locks to store in panniers. Don't worry about your helmets not being there when you return, anyone carrying the means to defeat this will have taken your bike as well. Nearly did not buy this as the description is wrong, the cables do not hang down into the suspension but lay flat under the seat when not in use. Recommend.

Very simple to fit. Very easy to use. It's now a natural process to pop the seat and fit one or two helmets to the plastic sleeved wires. Highly recommended.
