Reviews of Nippy Normans TFT screen anti-theft brace NO sun visor R1250RS BLACK

Tft screen anti theft brace not so anti theft! Robert Yates on Jun 08, 2021

Following an apparent epidemic of tft screen thefts I was pleased to see an anti theft device developed. Nippy Norman's delivered one in a very fast time and it is a well made piece of equipment. However, I don't consider it to be much of an anti theft deterrent as it is secured only by two torx screws. Anyone with a simple torx screw driver can easily undo them. They are plainly visible and accessible. Also the price is excessive for what it is. Whilst I realise they are not going to sell hundreds of them and someone has to devolp them, I still think it is way overpriced considering its limited level of security. Better than nothing, but only just. This is absolutely not a dig at Nippy Norman's, whose service is first class. Just the products' level of protection.

Contrary to the video on your website, this was extremely easy and very quick to install, since it required none of the bike’s components to be removed/replaced. The item is substantial, well enamelled in a matt-black finish, and was well packed for postage to me. The instructions were clear and concise, included helpful diagrams, and with apologies for using a similar but different BMW model as their installation example. A separate pack included the necessary bolts, spacers, washers, and some self-adhesive rubber foam strip. This latter must be stuck to the back of the surround of the brace to cushion it against the TFT. Sadly, there was insufficient of this foam, in fact about twice as much is necessary. Fortunately, I did have some similar spare foam in my stock-box from a previously installed Wunderlich Radiator Guard. Note: don’t throw away useful stuff! Fitting the two securing bolts was straightforward and quick to complete – job done in about 10 minutes. To provide a bit more accessible storage space, I had previously (October 2019) installed a pair of the Wunderlich Cockpit Bags that fit either side of the TFT. The forwardmost pair of the Tenax ball-fitting/bolts for these bags must be removed and replaced by the bolts for securing the brace. This posed a problem initially, but I then noticed that the Brace has a pair of holes each side. These otherwise unused holes were then used, with an additional nuts and washers, to fit the Tenax fittings for the bags. Although these newly placed fittings are displaced a little from their intended position, this does not significantly affect the location of the bags, nor their security. One definite benefit is that the bags hide both of the bolts that secure the brace, so acting as a further deterrent to potential thieves!
